Grice - fearing House Bed & Breakfast ( Elizabeth City )
The Grice-Fearing House Bed and Breakfast is a charming, historic home located in picturesque Elizabeth City, NC, just five blocks from the Pasquotank River waterfront. It is the City's only all-suite bed and breakfast and additionally features Jacuzzis in both suites. The Grice-Fearing House is the oldest house in Elizabeth City, dated circa 1798, and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Significant additions were made to the house in 1840, 1885, and 2006. The present proprietors, Georgene and Vidal Falcon, bought the house in 2004, and worked with an architect specializing in designing additions to historic homes to renovate and update the house. The house has been lovingly restored, offering guests a chance to stay in an authentic colonial-era house with the added benefit of twenty-first century luxuries. The owners have strived to maintain the charm and colonial character of the house. The first floor offers a large foyer, parlor and dining room, all with high ceilings and decorative moldings. Original to the house is the staircase leading to the second story, which is architecturally significant because of its diagonally-placed balusters. Music-loving guests may want to play the piano in the parlor. Breakfast is served in the elegant dining room, with wainscoting, a crystal chandelier, and fireplace. Each day, breakfast is served with Waterford crystal, china, sterling silver, and linens. Upstairs, all the rooms have been renovated. The second story's wide-planked wooden floors have been painted, in the colonial fashion, and are covered by oriental carpets. Wooden blinds and custom window treatments adorn the windows, many of which still contain old wavy glass panes.
